Foundation Apprenticeships (FA):
Foundation Apprenticeships are a great way to develop the skills you need for a successful career. Whatever your field of employment, completing a work based learning programme not only demonstrates your willingness to learn on the job but also your commitment towards continuous professional development and getting the career you've always wanted.
A Foundation Apprenticeship is aimed at employees working at basic levels, (so for example, shop floor operators, administrative assistants, receptionists, team leaders, or newer employees still in training, etc...) and is designed to develop both knowledge and competence in a specific sector or job role.
Anyone working in Wales can undertake a Foundation Apprenticeship, as long as they do not already have a degree or higher level qualification in the subject they want to study.
Foundation Apprenticeship Framework:
All apprenticeship programmes follow national frameworks stipulated by the relevant Sector Skills Councils. Generally, anyone undertaking a Foundation Apprenticeship will be working towards the completion of a Level 2 programme, like the one below.
Example framework for Level 2 Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Administration:
- Level 2 NVQ Certificate (QCF) in Business and Administration (City & Guilds)
- Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business and Administration (EDI)
- Level 1 Essential Skills Wales: Communication (City & Guilds)
- Level 1 Essential Skills Wales: Application of Number (City & Guilds)
- Level 1 Essential Skills Wales: Information Technology (City & Guilds)
To satisfy a typical apprenticeship framework, a learner would need to achieve the qualifications above. As well as receiving an overall Apprenticeship certificate (when you've completed all requirements of the framework - from the Sector Skills Council), you will also receive a certificate for each individual qualification you undertake and achieve.
We currently have apprenticeships available in the following sectors:
