Apprenticeship:

Level 3 Apprenticeships are a great way to develop the skills you need for a successful career.  Whatever your field of employment, completing a work based learning programme not only demonstrates your willingness to learn on the job but also your commitment towards continuous professional development and getting the career you've always wanted.

An Apprenticeship is aimed at employees working at an intermediate level, (so, for example, office administrators, supervisors, team leaders, shift managers...) and is designed to develop both knowledge and competence in a specific sector or job role.

Anyone working in Wales can undertake an Apprenticeship, providing that they meet the Welsh Government's eligibility criteria.  Find out if you are eligible for free funding...

What sectors / subjects can I do an Apprenticeship in?

There are a number of apprenticeship routes you could follow at Apprenticeship level.  Professional & Technical Development Ltd, offer the following:

  • Business & Administration
  • Management
  • Engineering

What does an Apprenticeship Framework consist of:

All apprenticeship programmes follow national frameworks stipulated by the relevant Sector Skills Councils. Generally, anyone undertaking an Apprenticeship will be working towards the completion of a Level 3 programme, like the one below.

Example framework for Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma (QCF) in Business and Administration (City & Guilds)
  • Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Business and Administration (EDI)
  • Level 2 Essential Skills Wales: Communication (City & Guilds)
  • Level 2 Essential Skills Wales: Application of Number (City & Guilds)
  • Level 2 Essential Skills Wales: Information Technology (City & Guilds)

To satisfy a typical apprenticeship framework, a learner would need to achieve all of the individual qualifications above.

What qualifications do I get at the end of the Apprenticeship programme?

As well as receiving certificates for each of the individual qualifications you achieve, you will also be given an overall Apprenticeship certificate (when you've completed all requirements of the framework) from the appropriate Sector Skills Council.
